Glucosamine injection for the hip
With chondroitin and hyaluronic acid, in one pre-filled syringe.

The hip
The hip is a ball and socket. The rounded head of the thigh bone sits in a cup in the pelvis, and both surfaces are covered in cartilage and bathed in joint fluid.
In osteoarthritis that cartilage thins and the fluid loses some of its cushioning quality. The joint becomes stiff and painful, often felt in the groin or the front of the thigh rather than the side of the hip.
How it tends to show
- Groin or front-of-thigh pain when walking, on stairs or getting out of a car.
- Stiffness first thing in the morning, or after sitting, that eases with movement.
- Trouble reaching your foot to put on socks or shoes.
- Pain that wakes you at night or stops you lying on that side.
Application
The hip joint is deep, so clinicians usually place the needle with ultrasound or X-ray guidance. One pre-filled syringe is injected into the joint space. The manufacturer describes two treatment cycles a year, six months apart.2
