Glucosamine injection for the shoulder
With chondroitin and hyaluronic acid, in one pre-filled syringe.

The shoulder
The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body. The ball at the top of the arm bone rests against a shallow socket on the shoulder blade, held by muscles and a capsule rather than by deep bone.
Osteoarthritis of the shoulder joint itself, the glenohumeral joint, wears the cartilage on the ball and the socket. It is less common than knee or hip osteoarthritis, and shoulder pain more often comes from the tendons around the joint, which this injection is not intended for.
How it tends to show
- A deep ache in the shoulder that is worse with use and at night.
- Stiffness, with less reach behind the back or overhead than before.
- Grinding or clicking from inside the joint on movement.
- Pain that has not settled with time, exercises or a steroid injection.
Application
The clinician confirms that the pain is coming from the shoulder joint and not the tendons around it, usually with imaging. One pre-filled syringe is injected into the joint space, often with ultrasound guidance. The manufacturer describes two treatment cycles a year, six months apart.2
